Sinking to a new low even by their standards, the goverment has arrested under ISA: Raja Petra, editor of government watchdog portal Malaysia-Today, Sin Chew journalist Tan Hoon Cheng (because she reported Ahmad Ismail's racist statements -Ummm he did say it!) and MP Teresa Kok, for comments on the Azan's noise levels that Khir Toyol said she made (Umm she didn't) ???!!! -Ok arrest the messenger, then arrest Khir Toyo! At least be consistent right!

A few other bloggers may be next and probably predictably Anwar & even maybe Guan Eng:

Beef Up Tourism in Malaysia

Couple of days ago the Star ran an interesting article about how Malaysia could potentially weather the current economic downturn by developing tourism since it's one of the fastest growing sectors in the global economy.

Besides being a day late and more than a couple of ringgit short, instead of trying to compete with the likes of Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore it makes more sense for Tourism to try to piggyback on their pool by increasing access from said countries. That way they only have to spend couple of million instead of billions to try to improve the whole sector... expectations from tourists also will be lower since it's like a by the way destination. Works out for everyone.

They should also promote Malaysia in Mongolia since we're probably always on the Mongolian news. There's already existing awareness. I was having a real blast coming up with potential taglines. Here are a few that I came up with before I ran out of ammo ;)

Stupid Morons at PROTES

Can't help commenting on the hullaballoo about Alak, the Carburetor Dung singer who was attacked after allegedly mooning during a performance of Jilat (Lick) at Stadium Kelana Jaya during PROTES rally on sunday.

It's the case of fuel price hike protest turns stupid. The Attackers were reportedly insulted PAS supporters, who threw water bottles at him, forcing the band to stop and then he got his ass kicked by an angry mob. He had to hide underneath the stage for 30 minutes.

Give the guy a break!!! Apparently. the morons thought that he was saying Liwat (homo)??? thinking that they were making fun of Anwar??????? -MORONS!!!

Either way, why can't they just be civilised. Look at the video lar he had his underwear on it's not like he showed his A-hole. Acting so Kampung will just give the police more reason to band future peaceful rallies. It just shows what years of senseless repression and TV censoring will do to ya they forgot why they were there in the 1st place... Seriously!!! Good on the band for not apologizing!

Paris on a Bicycle!

OMG I forgot how cool Paris was and if it's even possible, it's even cooler now with a little more money (last time I was there was '98 studying and broke).

So ended up staying at 9 hotel which is in the 9th Arondissement (Paris Zone), quite a central location and walking distance to Galleries Lafayette and the Shopping district of Boulevard Hausman and biking distance from The Louvre. Yes! I biked it! -Though not without hitting an old man before I was told where the bike lane was. Ok! So I'm mildly retarded.

There were no less than 3, Bike Stations within 5 blocks. They have an awesome self-serve take and return a bike system launched last year. You get a bike where from point-A and return it to a station at point-B at impressively many locations. 1st 30mins FREE!!! 1st additional half hour 1 €, 2nd additional half hour 2 € and 4€ per half hour (priced to discourage hogging) thereafter with a150€ refundable deposit ...

Environmental friendly Kudos to France, apparently Germany has it too... It's not without flaws though, there's like a thing where you charge your card and it spits out a ticket with a pin for a deposit and it took my money but didn't give me my thing. And no one picks up the helpline!!! I got an automated piece of shit!!! Stupid credit card couldn't cancel the transaction???!!! Also finding return bays near The Louvre was a pain in the butt so I chained my bike to my friend's (hahahaha) try stealing that!!! (Ooh! They come with locks) But otherwise trés cool! It ended up being the highlight of the trip... Damn handy also since the Taxis were on strike :(

Sigh! Will never get to Malaysia prolly cos all the bikes will be stolen la, rigged la, vandalised la and whatever else la. Shame-shame since the fuel prices are going up,up,up!!

Maybe the Political Leaders should start 1st. LoL

I learnt a new acronym; LOA for Lack of Attention. Commonly used to describe engaging in shameless, desperate and often unoriginal attention seeking behavior in hope of attracting some (cheap) attention... As in "She damn LOA"

Trying to Book a Hotel in Paris in June *@*#$$!

When traveling, I pour a large portion of research time into finding a cool hotel because it can make or break a trip... an oldy moldy hotel with scary curly furniture and floral bedding will seriously send me screaming out of there split seconds!!!

Thankfully, of late boutique hotels are sprouting up everywhere, easy to book and quite affordable, although nowhere near cheap. New hotels are cool because they have less history... i.e.; stains and unwelcome room-mates (of the pest-y & astral kind). Or so I thought.

Trying to book a reasonably priced hotel in a central part of town in Paris at this time of the year seems to be damn near impossible. Apparently, to quote a french dude that turned my reservations down... "dat izz Paris in June..."

Besides stalking myboutiquehotel (best rates but only paris & london), tablethotels (coolest site but a little pricier) & splendia (almost the same as myboutique but in USD), which are really cool sites for boutique hotels, I've also been calling hotels who all seem to be booked (for my budget) or those that are were in my price range (150Euros thats x 5.2 Ringgits!!!) are now at least 30% more. Sigh! Let's not even get into the frantic calling to Morocco trying to book a Riad there -hardly any English spoken. (Did I mention I'm going to Morocco too?)

Anyway finally heard back from rep at myboutique hotels who should be able to hopefully book for me 9 hotel at 120-190 Euros.

Malaysia Makes Another International Watch List!!!

There are 15 countries in this year’s Reporters Without Borders list of “Internet Enemies” - Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. There were only 13 in 2007. The two new additions to the traditional censors are both to be found in sub-Saharan Africa: Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

“This is not at all surprising as these regimes regularly hound the traditional media,” Reporters Without Borders says in the introduction to its report.“Internet penetration is very slight, but nevertheless sufficient to give them a few nightmares. They follow the example of their seniors and draw on the full arsenal of online censorship methods including legislation, monitoring Internet cafés and controlling ISPs.”

There is also a supplementary list of 11 “countries under watch.” They are Bahrain, Eritrea, Gambia, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Unlike the “enemies,” these countries do not imprison bloggers or censor the Internet massively. But they are sorely tempted and abuses are common. Many of them have laws that they could use to gag the Internet if they wanted. And the judicial or political authorities often use anti-terrorism laws to identify and monitor government opponents and activists expressing themselves online.

“The hunting down of independent thinkers online is all the more effective as several major western companies have colluded with governments in pinpointing ‘trouble-makers’,” the reports says. “US company Yahoo! apologised in 2007 for a ‘misunderstanding’ which ended in journalist Shi Tao being sent to prison for ten years. The company has been responsible for the imprisonment of a total of four Chinese cyber-dissidents. PARIT BUNTAR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has denied talk that he is quitting his ministerial post. He dismissed talk that he would resign to take responsibility for hard-hitting remarks he had made in the past that could have cost Umno and the Barisan Nasional support in the recently-concluded general election.

Nazri said the losses suffered had nothing to do with anything he had said.
It had a lot to do with losing my vote! But hey that's just me.

Stressing that his victory in the Padang Rengas parliamentary seat was proof of that, Nazri said: “I won, I didn’t lose. If it had been any statements that I made, I would have lost. Remember, Umno did not lose. Don’t talk as if we lost.”

However, he noted that the Barisan did lose some seats because it had stayed true to its promise on seat allocations among component parties. “For example, we already knew that the Indian community did not support the MIC but still we kept to our promise. Umno did not take back the Malay-majority seats but allowed the MIC to contest although we could have won them.”~star
Translation: UMNO 'gave' MIC those seats, like how UMNO allows all you people to stay here. Now we blame MIC too. It's everyone else's fault.

MPs to be live on TV for 30mins

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians will get to watch their parliamentarians live and uncensored for 30 minutes everyday on RTM 1 as long as Parliament is in session.

Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said that the Cabinet had approved of the live telecast of the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat, and it will be aired from 10am to 10.30am from April 30.

He replied with a firm "No" when asked if there would be censorship for the programme.

"There will be no censorship. Those who speak in Parliament are all MPs"

"As for what they want to say, that is beyond our control. But what is important is that the rakyat havechosen their MPs. Surely they would want to know what is going on in Parliament," he told reporters at his office at Angkasapuri Thursday.

"If they speak rudely, or slam tables, it will be beyond our control. But I don't think our MPs are like that or they would not have been elected as parliamentarians."

Ahmad Shabery said the live Q&A programme will start with 30 minutes and the ministry would consider expanding it if there was positive feedback.

"In other countries, there might be a full coverage for their parliament session. Maybe we will reach that level at some point, but right now we are limited because we only have two channels.

"This shows the Government's openness and confidence. There is nothing to hide. Given our increased confidence, the Cabinet has decided to allow this live telecast," he said.

The minister said bloggers who formed the alternative media, would also get "live" airtime on a Government news channel.

Every Sunday night beginning April 20, an interview session, ala BBC's Hardtalk, will be held from 8.40pm to 9pm during RTM 1's Bahasa Malaysia news segment.

"We are open to take into consideration the views of the alternative media and we are willing to listen to all parties," Ahmad Shabery said.

However, he said it was still to early to identify the bloggers who would be invited for the programme, adding that a lot of would depend on the issues, which are raised.

"Let's see how it goes first, you might be surprised to see who we invite.

"It's not about the personality, it's about the issues brought up. It's about news, opinions and the analysis which they bring forward," he said, when queried on whether only pro-Barisan bloggers would be invited, or if the programme would be open to all bloggers.

He also stressed that the choice of interviewees would be decided by RTM and not himself.

Asked if he thought bloggers would respond positively to their invitation, as the previous Information Minister (Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin) had clamped down hard on them, he said:

"What is past is past. I think it's best we forget about the past and think about the future. Asked if there would be repercussions for bloggers who touched on sensitive or illegal issues during the programme, he said: "Nobody is immune in this country, except in Parliament. If the bloggers choose to say slanderous things, we have laws in the country.

"It will not be our Ministry who takes action against them but the legal process will take its course. The slandered person can take action against the blogger involved," he said.

However, he said he believed that the majority of bloggers "do not write their blogs to destroy".

"We believe that most of them express themselves for good reasons, and we believe they will be able to show their maturity and used this opportunity to express themselves in a civilised and polite manner," he added. ~Star

Jobless in Selangor? I'm Hiring!

Khalid: Register jobless in Selangor

SABAK BERNAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has called for the registration of jobless people aged between 21 and 35.

District officers, penghulu and Village Safety and Development Committee (JKKK) chairmen should handle the registration, the purpose being to identify youths for training so that they could get jobs, he added.

“This is one of the ways so that youths can feel the luxury enjoyed by Selangor which achieved developed state status in 2005. -Says what source?
